Remortgage checklist

If your deal is ending, or you want to borrow more or change your mortgage, this checklist helps you gather what you need before you talk to an adviser.

Before you start

  • Your deal end date. Find it on your mortgage offer or annual statement.
  • Early repayment charges. Check whether any apply if you switch before your deal ends.
  • Your outstanding balance and remaining term.
  • An idea of your property's value. The lender will carry out its own valuation.
  • What you want to achieve: a new deal, borrowing more, changing the term or how you repay.
  • Changes since you last applied, such as income, job, family or credit commitments.

Documents to have ready

  • Your latest mortgage statement
  • Proof of identity and address
  • Recent payslips, or proof of self-employed income
  • Recent bank statements
  • Details of any loans, credit cards or other commitments

See the full mortgage document checklist (with a printable PDF).

Costs to ask about

  • Product or arrangement fees
  • Valuation and legal fees, and whether any are included
  • Our fee: Fees are dependent on individual circumstances and will be payable on application. The typical fee would be £495; maximum 2% of the mortgage loan.

Timing

Start the conversation well before your current deal ends so there is time to review the options and complete the switch. Before your deal expires, we will contact existing clients to discuss what options are available.

If you let out the property, remember that most Buy-to-Let mortgages are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
